Way back in 1978, I was a young real estate agent fresh out of school, no experience and with no clue how to get started in this business. You see, George was the owner of the brokerage - and old salt who was a legend in the business- he was never known to frequent the office, but now he was on his way in -to see ME. I fully expected I would be fired that day.
My branch manager called me into his office - as I walked in, there stood George - over 6' tall, lean, tan and fit, he had the look of a very rich man who didn't waste time on too many unimportant things.
The branch manager excused himself, and left me there alone in that office with George. Looking for some comfort, I gave him a sheepish grin. He only gave me a little half smile and simply said, "Sit down". I was only nineteen years old, and had no idea what to say or do- I was no heavyweight when dealing with authority, and I was shaking from head to toe as I fumbled for a chair.
I didn't do much talking for that hour and half that I was trapped in that office with George - mostly I just nodded and grunted occasionally as he sat back in the swivel chair, head slightly back. His eyes seemed half closed and he seemed to focus his stare at a spot directly above my head. Then he began his lecture.

"Carl", he began, "Being successful in this business requires requires that you commit to living several lifetimes in the span of one- and you must understand that there are the secrets of being successful."
