Every blogger wants good-looking blog posts. There are times when you just wish you had the same editing capability in WordPress that you have say, in
MS
Word. No problem – the folks at Microsoft have you covered with some free software. It’s called Windows Live Writer – and for the average user, I think it’s the best thing to come from Microsoft in a long time.
Basically, you use LiveWriter to create and manage your posts and the software uploads to your blog automatically. There are dozens of plug-ins available for free, too – that extend the functionality of LiveWriter to the point where you can post about anything effortlessly. Maps, videos, source code, framed photos, it’s all a breeze with this fine package. The software has a very handy preview feature, allows drafts, and has a full compliment of the usual Word-Like formatting tools and functions.
In all, this is a great package – and you can’t beat free. Try it out.

Let me be the first – appreciate your sharing what you know. I have found it helpful.
LiveWriter is easily the best blogging program out there–I just wish it was available for OS X too. Sigh. Microsoft really outdid themselves when they created it, and if just one of the Mac blogging apps had the functionality of LiveWriter, I’d be overjoyed. Until then, I guess I’ll be sticking with the admin section of my WordPress blog.
Eric, I would not hold my breath on MS porting LiveWriter to anything but Windows. The package is the most useful thing they have done in years.
Wow. I love knowing this as I was unaware of it. I will definitly give this a go. Thanks so much for this information, I’m sure it is going to help ALOT of people in the long run!
Thanks for the info. Your blogs are always informative.
It is what I predicted to be after being familiar with Frontpage and other web-editing tools of Microsoft. The formatting is achieved by using font face and font color attributes thus cluttering the code. Don’t get me wrong, I think it is a nice little program but I will continue using the JavaScript WYSIWYG editor of WordPress that is employing “style” to apply effects. The option to update LIVE users on my fresh posts is tempting, though… Thank you for this post, I had fun trying it out.
Very informative.I was redircted here from the post about facebook bfriends exprting.
Good info.
Thanks again.
Thanks for the post. I hadn’t heard about this software before. I have always just manually done it through the site or used mircrosoft word. I will definitely look into this!
The first thing to notice about Writer is that it enables true WYSIWYG blog authoring. You can now author your post and know exactly what it will look like before you publish it. Writer knows the styles of your blog such as headings, fonts, colors, background images, paragraph spacing, margins and block quotes and enables you to edit your post using these styles.
Widows LiveWriter has to be one of the best blogging programs available. I only wish there was a Mac app that was as functional as LiveWriter. Thanks for the great information.

I totally agree with David! It’s a shame there is not equivalent of WLW on Mac. I’m looking forward to find one software that is, so if you have any idea please share it here!
